Is it me? or is getting a driver’s license way to easy? It seems inevitable that every time I get into my vehicle and drive down the road, there will be many other drivers behaving badly. Who’s fault is it? If only the DMV made testing more intensive for prospective drivers. I have been a licensed driver for 18 years and consider myself to be an excellent driver ‘most of the time’. I say ‘most of the time’ because I believe that it is impossible to be an excellent driver all the time. Don’t get me wrong, we all have excellent driving moments. A person can be an excellent driver today, but a horrible driver tomorrow. Then back to being excellent the day after that. Below is a list that I made for you to follow that can help you become an excellent driver more often.

1. Plan your trip (Knowing exactly where you are going prevents indecisiveness)

2. Wear your seat belt and adjust seat and mirrors appropriately (No brainer)

3. Never drive impaired (No brainer)

4. Be decisive (Build confidence on the road, learn to trust your vehicle)

5. Drive defensively (Prevent an accident, don’t create one)

6. Know what’s going on around you (Scan ahead for potential issues)

7. Anticipate 

8. Keep a safe distance between you and other vehicles (2 to 8 seconds depending on weather)

9. Always make complete stops (Gives you time to see oncoming traffic and avoid an intersection accident)

10. Communicate with other drivers (Turn signals etc)

12. Maintain your vehicle (Keep it clean and running well)

13. Learn how to park properly

I recently discovered the work of photographer Trevor Traynor on the website Feature Shoot. Feature Shoot posted a group of images from his series entitled “Low Life”. Being a fan of lowriders my entire life I was immediately drawn to the pictures. In my opinion Trevors approach to these classic cars is that of a portraitist. He brings the camera down to the cars eye level so you can truly appreciate and respect their unique shape and design. This book makes me feel young again. Scrolling through some of its pages on Amazon.com puts a real big smile on my face. Inside this book is boombox art, classic photographs of many different models of boomboxes from the 1970′s and 1980′s, street pictures of people walking around with boomboxes, holding their boomboxes up in the air, just loving their boomboxes. From what I see of this book it is a must have! Somebody buy it for me please!

I’m a photographer. I need to keep telling myself that because this is what I am. No matter how long I deny and suppress my desire to make photos, and art, I always come back to it. So in my search to stay creative and photo savvy, I have found a project called Photoweave on Photojojo.com. A few days ago I made 4×6 prints of some friends and attempted to slice, dice, weave, and frame to make an ordinary dull photo into an extraodinary one.

This movie gets 5 MINDS

“No matter what you are into, this movie is a must see!”Mother’s Day 2010 was great. I bought my mom a card, a bouquet of flowers, and a nice broach that she liked. We went to breakfast at The Grove on Fillmore, an independent movie at the Embarcadero Theatre, and bowling in the Presidio. It all made my mom very happy and that is what Mother’s Day is all about. But the real highlight surprise for me was the movie my mom chose to see. It was called “Exit Through The Gift Shop” by world renowned street artist BANKSY. My mom chose a graff movie!? Awesome!! After all those years of her disciplining me for sneaking out of the house in the morning or staying out late from bombing, and now she wants to see a graff movie. Go figure. My mom has really evolved and I love that about her.

In short the movie is about this savant/genius type frenchman by the name of Thierry Guetta who has always been obsessed with filming every moment of his life. He films his family, his friends, his work, everything. One day he travels back to France to visit family and discovers his cousin is a street artist by the name of “Space Invader”. He becomes passionate about filming his cousin doing art and winds up meeting many of the worlds underground street artists like Sheppard Fairey, SWOON, ZEVS, etc. He films them all. He goes on missions with them. He climbs buildings and billboards and even helps them carry their tools and install their art on walls. Basically he becomes the the unofficial filmmaker to the worlds street artists. He may even become one himself.

No matter what you are into, My Mind Spray recommends you watch “Exit Through The Gift Shop”. It’s a must see and we give it FIVE MINDS.

I stumbled on this movie over at http://frank151.com . It’s a different kind of documentary about street artists from all over the world doing big things in their realm. These artists are not your typical graffiti vandals yet they are exactly your typical graffiti vandals. I say vandals because society has not yet figured out how to deal with such amazing creativity like this in the world, so until we do, the artists you are about to see are all willing to go to jail for their passion.
