This book makes me feel young again. Scrolling through some of its pages on Amazon.com puts a real big smile on my face. Inside this book is boombox art, classic photographs of many different models of boomboxes from the 1970′s and 1980′s, street pictures of people walking around with boomboxes, holding their boomboxes up in the air, just loving their boomboxes. From what I see of this book it is a must have! Somebody buy it for me please!

I’m a photographer. I need to keep telling myself that because this is what I am. No matter how long I deny and suppress my desire to make photos, and art, I always come back to it. So in my search to stay creative and photo savvy, I have found a project called Photoweave on Photojojo.com. A few days ago I made 4×6 prints of some friends and attempted to slice, dice, weave, and frame to make an ordinary dull photo into an extraodinary one.

If this tickles your fancy and ignites the fire in you to do the same, then by all means click on this link and it will take you directly to the Photojojo page teaching you everything you need to know about making an amazing Photoweave http://content.photojojo.com/diy/make-a-photo-weave/

And respect to the photographer who submitted this project, Nicole Sheikh.

Below are the Photoweaves I did with my lady. Lets see what you got!

“No matter what you are into, this movie is a must see!”Mother’s Day 2010 was great. I bought my mom a card, a bouquet of flowers, and a nice broach that she liked. We went to breakfast at The Grove on Fillmore, an independent movie at the Embarcadero Theatre, and bowling in the Presidio. It all made my mom very happy and that is what Mother’s Day is all about. But the real highlight surprise for me was the movie my mom chose to see. It was called “Exit Through The Gift Shop” by world renowned street artist BANKSY. My mom chose a graff movie!? Awesome!! After all those years of her disciplining me for sneaking out of the house in the morning or staying out late from bombing, and now she wants to see a graff movie. Go figure. My mom has really evolved and I love that about her.

In short the movie is about this savant/genius type frenchman by the name of Thierry Guetta who has always been obsessed with filming every moment of his life. He films his family, his friends, his work, everything. One day he travels back to France to visit family and discovers his cousin is a street artist by the name of “Space Invader”. He becomes passionate about filming his cousin doing art and winds up meeting many of the worlds underground street artists like Sheppard Fairey, SWOON, ZEVS, etc. He films them all. He goes on missions with them. He climbs buildings and billboards and even helps them carry their tools and install their art on walls. Basically he becomes the the unofficial filmmaker to the worlds street artists. He may even become one himself.

No matter what you are into, My Mind Spray recommends you watch “Exit Through The Gift Shop”. It’s a must see and we give it FIVE MINDS.

Below is the first five minutes of the movie for your viewing pleasure. If you don’t see this movie in your lifetime, I can’t do nothing else for ya.

It’s a different kind of documentary about street artists from all over the world doing big things in their realm. These artists are not your typical graffiti vandals yet they are exactly your typical graffiti vandals. I say vandals because society has not yet figured out how to deal with such amazing creativity like this in the world, so until we do, the artists you are about to see are all willing to go to jail for their passion.

The full length 57 minute movie is viewable here at http://www.frank151.com/blog/2010/01/25/inside_outside_street_art_movie_video.

I pulled a good segment from the movie so you can get taste before diving in to the full length… which I completely recommend btw.

The pedals are matches, the stem is a fire extinguisher, center of flower is a fire alarm and the small tree on the left side is the mach striker. This piece is called "Set Pon Fiyah". I actually need 100 or so books of neon blue matches to complete. If anyone has an idea of where I can get some or if you have some chillin in your garage holler at a playa!

I’ve studied its origins from the South Bronx, to its usage of samples and delivery of masterful rhymes, and on to the sub genres glitch, dubstep, and electro etc. I also love anything “How-to”. I go wild on search engines like Google and Yahoo asking every little question that pops into my head. If you are not yet doing this, I recommend starting now. Its time to flip the switch and turn on that light bulb above your heads. Start with Howcast, eHow and about.com

While searching the web recently, I stumbled on a newly released book “How to Rap” The Art and Science of the MC. The cover features a photo of Q-Tip on the Mic and a short list of highly credible featured rappers. A true legend in the game, Kool G Rap writes the forward. MC’s from every region are featured within its pages including many classic hip hop era MC’s. For example you will read tips, advice and guidance from the likes of Gift of Gab, Havok of Mobb Deep, Big Daddy Kane, GURU of Gang Starr, RZA, KRS-1, Nas, Redman, Tha Alkaholiks, Cypress Hill and E-40. This book does not fall short of MC contributions.

Author Paul Edwards is an established writer and a researcher of hip hop. His book is the most extensive release of its kind featuring more than 100 rappers discussing and telling you how they use literary tools, imagery, similes, metaphors and analogies to define their style and personalities. How they work in the studio, perform live, play with words, punchlines, freestyling and making beats are also discussed, not to mention breathing techniques, vocal style and enunciation.

Released December 9th, 2009 How to Rap: The Art and Science of the Hip-Hop MC is available now at Amazon.com If you pick one up, please send me an email or post a comment with your thoughts on the book. I read everything and respond to everyone.

Thank you for reading, hope you enjoy the book.
